What happens when your work reaches the lab?
Whether you send us a conventional or digital impression, every case that arrives at Imperial Dental Studio follows a carefully managed workflow.
Our aim is simple: to produce and provide restorations that fit accurately, function predictably and meet the highest aesthetic standards.
Here's what happens behind the scenes:
Step 1: Case registration
Every case that enters the laboratory gets logged and booked into our systems as soon as it arrives. We check the prescription, patient details, restoration type, shade, and requested delivery date to ensure everything is complete before production begins.
If any information is missing or requires clarification, we'll contact the practice at this stage to avoid unnecessary delays.
Step 2: Initial Quality Assesment
Once booked in, our technicians will carefully assess the impression or digital scan.
We look for:
- Clear prep margins
- Accurate bite registration
- Complete arch data
- Adequate soft tissue management
- Sufficient information to design accordingly
- Any distortion or discrepancies
If we identify anything that may compromise the result, we'll discuss it with clinicians before proceeding and move forward as we decide fit.
Step 3: Digital Design
Once the impressions are approved, the case is uploaded to the scanner and designed using our advanced CAD software.
Every restoration is individually designed, rather than relying on generic pre-designed templated provided by the CAD software, ensuring each case received the attention it deserves.
Step 4: Manufacturing
Depending on which restoration has been prescribed, production may involve precision milling, pressing or traditional lab techniques.
Our technicians combine modern digital technology with skilled craftsmanship to produce restorations which balance strength, function and aesthetics.
Throughout manufacture, attention is paid to every detail - from contours to shade.
Step 5: Refinements
Whilst technology can provide precision, experienced technicians provide the artistry.
Each case is carefully finished by hand, refining contours, adjusting morphology and adding natural characteristics where requried.
For highly aesthetic cases, layering and staining techniques are used to create lifelike translucency and individualisation.
Step 6: Quality Control
Before leaving the lab, each case undergoes a comprehensive quality inspection.
We check:
- Marginal integrity
- Contacts
- Occlusion
- Anatomy
- Surface finish
- Shade accuracy
- Overall aesthetics
Only when we're satisfied that the restoration meets our standards is it approved for dispatch.
Step 7: Packing and Dispatch
Completed restorations are securely packaged with the prescription, patient statement and invoice before being dispatched to your practice.
