Modern translucent Zirconia also offers impressive aesthetics, making it suitable for anterior cases.
When is it ideal?
Zirconia is best for posterior crowns, implant-supported restorations, bridges, bruxism patients and long-span restorations.
It has excellent fracture resistance and causes minimal wear to opposing dentition when polished correctly.
Worth noting: Layered Zirconia may be best where maximum aesthetics are required in the anterior reigon.
IPS E.max - Outstanding Aesthetics
Lithium disilicate (also known as E.max) remains one of the most popular choices for highly aesthetic restorations. Its natural translucency makes it particularly well suited for anterior teeth.
When is it ideal?
E.max is best for anterior crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays and cosmetic smile restorations due to its excellent aesthetics.
It has a natural translucency and reliable long-term performance when correctly indicated.
Worth noting: E.max is not ideal for heavy occlusal loading or long-span bridge cases.
Metal Ceramic (PFM)
Although all-ceramic restorations have become increasingly popular, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations continue to provide reliable clinical outcomes.
When is it ideal?
PFM is best when there is limited occlusal clearance and for cost-sensitive treatment plans.
It's proven long-term success and excellent strength make it a great alternative to typical all-ceramic restorations.
Implant Restorations
Material selection for Implant cases depends on the Implant position, occlusal loading, patient expectations and emergence profile.
When is each material ideal?
For posterior Implant restorations, Zirconia provides an excellent combination of durability and function.
In highly aesthetic anterior cases, layered Zirconia may provide a more lifelike result.
